This morning we woke up to some fantastic smells cooking away in the kitchen. We had omlette, fried bananas, empenada's the queso and juice of maracuya ( this is a fruit that tastes kind of like a passion fruit without the acid aftertase. The fruit also looks like a massive passion fruit but a different colour.
After breakfast we went to the Hascienda of cousin Johanna and Luis. It is their little weekend house about 45 mins out of Quito. I would be happy to retire to a hascienda like this.
The horse stables and the entry gates at the far left.
The house section
The hammock under a tree and next to the water feature, but it's without water at the moment.
Table and chairs made out of solid wood
The view of the mountains in the distance
The Hascienda has 5 horses and stables, a small soccer pitch ( this is almost mandatory in South America), chicken that run all over the place, fruit trees and plants and corn and a few other things growing.
We picked mora berries, these look like our black berries but taste totally different and their vines have nasty thorns.
We then sat down and had fruit while we waited for our bbq to be cooked.
Sugar cane... soo sweet and different to that back home.
Maracuya ( the passionfruit like things)

Sian thinks the seeds look like fish eyes.
I cant remember what these little things were called, they look and have the same texture as cherry tomatoes but are really sweet and don't taste like a tomato at all.
The chef cooked up a storm
Including yucky Morcilla ( blood sausage... YUCK!!!)
Chicken sausage - this was my favorite
Chicken, corn, salad and cheese
We sat around eating and talking for hours
When it stopped raining it was time to do a little horse riding.
As the night rolled in we packed up and drove home.
When we got home we again had a nice fruit salad, chocolotanda (corn bread type thing) and caca de perro (dog poo)
Caca de perro ( it made with tostadas ( which is cooked corn kernals but a special type) and then coated in sugar
chocolotanda ( this is like a corn bread, that we ate with chochos and also with caca de perro
This is what it looks like un wrapped.
